I live on a sustainable family farm and work for a humanitarian aid organization. My goal is to have a simple beautiful life. The Quaker acronym SPICE (simplicity, peace, integrity, community, and equality) guides my life.
Cherie, yeah, I don't spend a lot of time in social media. I don't need to know every detail with pictures of friends and family. I stay away from media news and newspapers as well. People have asked why I don't want to know what's going on in the world. I do know what's going on in the world but I find out the world news from talking to people directly. Social media for me is low tech actually talking to some one. Don't get me wrong I do have a Facebook account and I have a blog. They just aren't my main focus in life.
Silence is some thing that many people in today's culture are not able to deal with. I know many people that have to have noise in their life all the time. A TV or radio has to be on even if they aren't watching or listening. It's extremely uncomfortable to them to be in a perfectly quiet environment.
David - love your description of social media as "low tech"! Silence is something we're uncomfortable with in our culture. I think because I don't have TV access and don't listen to the radio at home (or much in my car), I've become accustomed to - and even welcome - silence. I do my best thinking when I have a long car ride by myself.

Have a great quiet day.
