I live on a sustainable family farm and work for a humanitarian aid organization. My goal is to have a simple beautiful life. The Quaker acronym SPICE (simplicity, peace, integrity, community, and equality) guides my life.
Cherie, duh, that should be a no brainer but we as a society have been duped into believing that is a normal life style. Every time I have attended a marriage conference and the numbers are run on exactly how much more income comes into the family coffers by the spouse working, it comes up way short. The actual hourly wage was very minimal. I've known people that car pooled 60 miles one way to work for over 30 years. This was near a major city so with traffic demands it took almost two hours each way to work with a nine hour work day. They had no home life because weekends were getting all the things around the house done that had accumulated during the week. Even at an early age I did not see the wisdom in that and never lived more than 15 miles from work. The life I live now is the best it's been ever. Work is right out the back door in the garden. :-)
