Farm Friday

This week of reading deprivation has been productive for me. Let me give you an idea of just a few of the things I accomplished:

  • Learned to make pita bread
  • Dried and then powdered some of our extra garlic
  • Modified one of my apron patterns. I made one and have three more in the works.
  • Worked on two personal writing projects
  • Learned to caramelize onions in a slow cooker
  • Tried several new recipes, including marinara sauce using frozen tomatoes
  • Worked on a new grant writing project for our local food bank
  • Found out it doesn't hurt to see if a broken appliance is covered by the warranty
I'm glad I made the commitment to deprive myself of my favorite pastime, although I'll be glad to get back into the books. I realized that having a stretch of time that I usually fill with reading really forces me to step outside of my routine and try some new things.

Have a great week!

Cherie, this week I transplanted the onions, ran errands for neighbors and friends that don't have cars or are in recovery from operations, and watched garden shows on YouTube. I've found a wealth of garden information on YouTube. In England there are what they call allotments that are similar to community gardening here in the States. The one I'm watching now is called "Sean's Allotment". It's segments from 10 minutes to 30 minutes of weekly updates of the allotment starting in January and continue through December. The thing I like about the videos is that his lot, shed, green house and garden beds are similar to mine. They are not neat and tidy like magazine pictures. He has piles of junk in the corner of the lot and weeds in the garden bed that need removed. The videos are very grass roots and down to earth. It's very inspiring for me to watch.

Have a great day what ever your interests are.
