I live on a sustainable family farm and work for a humanitarian aid organization. My goal is to have a simple beautiful life. The Quaker acronym SPICE (simplicity, peace, integrity, community, and equality) guides my life.
"The care of the Earth is our most ancient and most worthy, and after all our most pleasing responsibility. To cherish what remains of it and to foster its renewal is our only hope."
Cherie, I hope and pray that you have a joyous Easter. All of the cultures that were native to this country believed that no one had ownership to the land. The land provided food, clothes, and shelter and in return they gave respect and care for the land. In today's culture of ownership, we think that all the legal documents provide a legal right to the ownership of land when in reality, in the grand scheme of eternity, we only take care of it for a short time. So land is eternal but ownership is a myth. We are only servants to the land for a few years then it becomes another's responsibility or not.
My thoughts about land ownership are to improve it the best that I can so the next person will be able to enjoy it and continue the process. Even if I don't improve it or take care of it, nature has the resiliency to care for itself. Imagine that.
David, hope you're having a good Easter as well. Yes, nature does tend to take care of itself. It's the people who need to worry. We don't understand or respect the system that fills our true and basic needs. One day we might remember that and hope it's not too late, especially for future generations. Keep tending the land and our resources!

Have a great earth care responsibility day.
