Wellness Wednesday

Sometimes things that are bad for you, are also bad for others.  I've read of the health benefits from chocolate, but the truth is most of us consume far too much of it.  By eating too much of it, or by eating milk chocolate rather than dark chocolate, we cancel out any potential benefits.  However, you might start cutting down on chocolate consumption after watching this movie trailer that Lisa at Retro Housewife Goes Green shared on facebook:

And from what I've read, it's raw cacao that is an anti-oxidant, not the processed bars, no matter how high the dark %. Promoting dark chocolate as as healthy is merely a marketing tool.

Or maybe just be more selective about the chocolate you consume? Dagoba and Endangered Species both make organic fair trade chocolate. I haven't seen the film, of course, and it could that this is yet be another usurpation of terms that should mean something but do not.

Shona, I should know after watching Food Matters that it's the raw cacao that is beneficial. However, dark chocolate does taste good. :)

Wanda, thanks for reminding me of the organic fair trade chocolates. But after seeing this trailer, I do wonder if there is such a thing as "fair trade" or if that term is meaningless.
