This infographic is very eye-opening. Growing up I was taught that turning your engine off and back on wasted more energy than letting it idle. I think that was a rumor started by the oil companies. (I was told the same thing about turning off the lights in a room.)

I'd like to see the figures for a Prius. Part of the issue here is that our temperatures are often uncomfortable without heat or air conditioning. Fortunately I don't have to drive much. I tend to be a hermit. Ha!
Deanna, it would be interesting to see how much energy hybrids use when idling. We have the same issue here, with it either being hot and humid, or cold; no in-between like you get in Southern California. I'm a homebody, too, so don't do a lot of driving. And I'm trying to be more purposeful with the little driving that I do, planning errands, etc. so I can get it all done in one trip.
