Update on Shopping Challenge

shopping by the sea
I have a little over a month left in my shopping - or should I say not shopping - challenge.  Since my last update on the challenge, I've refrained from spending any more money, except on essentials.  I did use a gift card I had to purchase some blank books for myself.  I feel this is within my challenge as 1) I didn't spend any of my money; 2) I consider journaling to be an essential part of my life so am always in the need of a new blank book; 3) I rarely have access to a good selection of journals so I took advantage of the opportunity to stock up on this necessity.

This challenge has not been oppressive at all.  More and more I realize how little I really need and that I have enough material possessions that I can almost always made do.  This exercise is helping me rethink some of my spending habits and, once I'm "off the hook," think I will be much more mindful of purchases.

Despite my situation I'm still keeping the challenge in mind. I have been without my car for 2 weeks as it is being repaired after the accident so this has added to a lot of non-shopping (but does it count that I bought a door + side panel? $200 at the U-wrench-it place).

Car stuff aside I'm at $57 spent- couch, plates + glasses (all second hand). I was also 3 days overdue on s2 of "Six Feet Under" and owed the library $3 (I swear I renewed online! but it didn't take, I guess).

I have a blank book to send you, but have not been able to get to the post office. I can walk 6 blocks to Goodwill (I know, a bit dangerous on the wallet) but the PO is too far.

Shona, I think you're doing extremely well. For me the challenge was all about avoiding spending on frivolous baubles. The things you've purchased have been pretty much what I consider necessities. And besides, $57 for a couch, plates, and glasses? Great job!

I think our library fees are going to be considerable. My husband returned a CD to our library in Florida and they say they have no record. Then, he checked out a couple of books for our son and, because he wasn't planning on going back to Florida any time soon, I mailed the books earlier this month. So far, they haven't received them.:(

Hope your car is fixed soon as I know how inconvenient it is to be without.
